Books: The Tribal Bible, available again

In my heart of hearts, I am a total bookworm. I love books. I love the touch, the smell, the feel of them in my hands, and the knowledge. Receiving books as presents makes me happy. Giving them makes me giddy, and I try to recommend books when I can, and pick “odd” books just for the heck of it. I love my reference books, my costuming books, my art books, my Egyptology books… it was just a matter of time before I started collecting Belly Dance books.

However, I do not love the amount of space these books claim in my home. So some time ago hubby and I agreed that we would try to minimise space taken by moving our purchasing habit for most books we could into Kindle format, keeping the physical ones for library editions, antiques, art books and out of prints.

When I started ATS back in September, we were asked to read a bit about it from the Fat Chance Belly Dance website, but online reading can be a bit of a chore for me, I find my attention drifts all too easily, with emails to answer and a myriad other things vying for my attention. And besides, time spent at the computer is time I should be working! I do however always read in bed for a while before sleeping, so I started to look for something that would give me a bit more “meat” to sink my teeth into. So, by sheer stubbornness and magical ability to use “ATS tribal book” or similar search terms (GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND!), I found there was something called the “Tribal Bible” by Kajira Djoumahna; sadly it was priced at around £80 (and other places for up to $400) and listed as out of print and not available. Today, on a lark, I checked Amazon and what did I find? Oh yes… There is now a Kindle edition of The Tribal Bible, priced far more reasonably at £12.96. You can find it here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Exploring-Phenomenon-American-Bellydance-ebook/dp/B00A81HKFO/

I’ve read mostly glowing reviews in Amazon US and GoodReads. There is also a very detailed review at The Gilded Serpent, that covers the whole thing in detail, less glowing but more objective, I’d think. Frankly, from what I am seeing there, it does sound like an interesting read.
This is now on my to-buy list, which will probably happen after I finish the other books I’m reading at the moment. Review will come afterwards!
